What is Compounding?
Compounding is the process of preparing customized medications for the individual needs of a patient. This includes preparing a medication in a strength not commercially available, in a dosage form that is easier for the patient to use, or without a dye or additive the patient is allergic to. Some examples of prescriptions compounded by the pharmacists at Parkview Pharmacy include:
- Sustained-release capsules
- Lozenges/Troches
- Transdermal gels/ointments/creams
- Suppositories
- Lip balms
- Suspensions
- Nasal sprays
- and Many more!

Each prescription is compounded based on an individual patient's needs and is prepared only by prescription from a doctor. We will work closely with your doctor to prepare a medication that is right for you.
The staff at Parkview Pharmacy are specially trained in compounding and utilize our state of the art facility to compound prescriptions. We use the highest quality chemicals and equipment in the preparation of each compound.

Who can benefit from a compounded prescription?
Anyone! Patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets or capsules or who are allergic to certain dyes or additives. Children needing a different dosage form, hospice patients with special needs and even your pets can benefit from a specialized compounded medication. We will work with your doctor or veterinarian to determine if a compounded medication can benefit you or your pet.

Will my insurance pay for a compounded prescription?
Most prescription insurance plans will pay for a compounded prescription in the same way they pay for your other medications. If the cost of the compounded presciption can not be submitted for payment by the pharmacy, you will be charged the full amount and can most often receive reimbursement for this expense directly through your insurance company.
